Spa Day With Summer & Fresh Local Deliveries

We're so happy you've joined us for Spa Day With Summer! Pets are family! (And all the pet-owners said, "Amen!") Amiright? If you've followed my blog or Instagram for any length of time, you probably already know how we feel about our sweet Summer girl who just turned 6 in June. She's a Great Dane and English Mastiff mix weighting about 160 pounds at her leanest weight. What a joy it is to come home to that darling face and happy wagging tail. Our fur-babies grace us with their presence here on earth for far too short of a time and it's important to make that time count.

First, I have to admit something, and it doesn't make me look like the best dog mom. I thought I could "get away with it", but I was wrong. The rather inexpensive food that I was feeding my dog was the main reason for her itchy, flaky, bumpy skin. Her food was considered a decent brand, but still she was losing patches of hair left and right. Once I thought it was clearing up, she would flare up again. Vet visit after vet visit, (and huge bill after huge bill) I spent time, energy and money trying to figure out what was wrong with her! Sadly, we were only addressing the symptoms and not the actual cause of the problem.

Summer gained a ton of weight in a short period of time because of the hormones that she was on which were supposed to address her irritated skin. I had to cut her food intake in half and watch her sad eyes beg for more food. Excess weight is bad for anyone, but especially harmful to extra-large dogs. She was tested for allergies but nothing was pin-pointed. It was awful.

We decided to completely change Summer's diet and see if it helped. It did! Within the month, her skin had cleared up and she was back to consuming regular amounts of food for her size. We definitely think of her diet as a preventative measure that will keep us out of the vet's office and keep our Summer girl enjoying life with us for as long as possible!

Alright, let's talk about those big feet!

Pet Wants Paw Wax

Health starts internally, of course, but it's also important to know what you're putting on your pet's skin. For starters, Pet Wants Paw Wax is great for healing cracked, burnt, or injured paw pads.
