How to Store Seasonal Pillows by Hiding Them in Plain Sight

Chances are you know the power of throw pillows. You understand their versatility and how swapping them out for different patterns and colors is an easy way to decorate for the seasons. If all of that is true, then chances are, also, that you've been challenged to find new spaces to store your beloved throw pillows when they're not in use.

One of my favorite ways to "store" my seasonal pillows is by simply stuffing them into a pillow cover. Additionally, it saves me money, since I can just find some pillow covers on sale vs buying another pillow.

I bought these furry pillows for Christmas/winter and they go against my normal rules for throw pillows, which are: they must be down filled and they must have removable covers. But because these are just seasonal and decorative, I made an exception.

The quilt in the front guest room is bright white, and with the light shining in, it made these pillows look a bit more beige than they actually are.

Now, the surprising part of this little magic trick is that the pillow covers I'm "hiding" them in are quite literally the cheapest covers I've ever seen online and they measure 18x18 inches. They can be purchased in a set of four, as seen below. The furry pillows are obviously much larger and do not squish down as easily as down-filled pillows. But alas, with careful squashing and pushing, I maneuvered the furry pillows into the much smaller covers without ripping the zipper seams and I actually LOVE that this gives a much fuller effect!

Notice the size difference between the pillow and cover.

As I mentioned earlier, the majority of my throw pillows have removable covers with zippers, so I keep a small plastic tote under one of the guest beds just for my extra pillow covers when they're not being used. I no longer have to worry about storage for my pillows, which is a huge deal in a Florida home with no basement! ;)

Would you ever guess there's a furry Christmas pillow behind those coastal covers? ;) How do you manage your throw pillow "collection"? Share your ideas in the comments below!
